Did a quick search & couldnt find a thread on the topic.. SO...
Has anyone been thinking about converting a 2013 450 to supermoto once theyre out? Heres a little info from Motocross Action Mag:
Based on the "Factory Edition" model used by Ryan Dungey, the 2013 450SXF is fuel injected (with a 44mm throttle body), has a different bore and stroke than last year (95mm x 63.4mm compared to 97mm x 60.8mm), a Konig bridge-boxed piston, Pankl rod and crank, and plain bearing on the big-end. The 450SXF does not have the resonance chamber that it had last year. All of the 2013 KTM four-strokes get additional and improved fuel filters – inline, at the fuel pump and at the injector body. The European models get four-speed transmissions with 14/50 gearing, while the American models get five-speed trannies with 14/52 gearing.
The KTM 450SXF gets firmer damping front and rear, especially in the midstroke compared to previous models. The spring rate front and rear remains the same, as does the rising rate linkage.
It will be KTM's first (mass produced) fuel injected 450 MX bike. I think it looks pretty cool. From a few ride reports guys were saying the motor feels a bit like the 350 in the way it just revs and revs. I know they will be landing here in Australia in just a couple months and Im looking forward to the KTM ride day that they organize.

funny thing about the 450 though, there's been discussion wether or not it's a 4 speed or a 5 speed.
the dungey replica was a five speed, but KTM's website still claims the 2013 450 is a 4 speed. if it were an error I figured they would have corrected it by now... also there are no parts lists out yet to the public so we can't check the internals of the motor ourselves and determine what they put in there.
I also haven't spotted a 450 at my dealer yet so I haven't been able to give the shifter a feel and see how many gears it has, if it is a 4 speed it won't be a very good choice for supermoto.
if al goes well I would expect KTM to come out with an SMR version next year.

I dont get it.. why europe gets 1 gear less??

They're meant to be bringing out a proper SMR version - shorter swinger, stiffer frame etc probably October/ November over here.

it's either gonne be 4 or 5, US and Euro models have some slight differences between them but they're not gonne go so far as giving the US 450 a 5 speed box and the euro 450 a 4 speed.

If you hear anything else Hugo, could you let me know? If thats the case, I think I will have to sell...something :rolleyes2:
We only ever get limited stock of SMR's in Australia. Gotta be quick to snatch em up!
It does seem pretty weird that US gets a 5speed (and different rear sprocket)
Not sure what the reason behind that is... :hmmm: :headscrat

I'm wanting to pick one up and keep it in dirt trim. But if it's not a 5-speed than I'm just gonna buy a 2012 leftover I guess. No way I want my MX bike with four gears. I've ridden 4 speed Yamies and don't like the feel of it. Much prefer my 5 speed for sure. And if I ever wanted to track tard it, it would suck.
Really hope ktm does the right thing and keeps the 5 speed. Magazines always seem to praise it.

There is a proper SMR version being released, I know who's getting the first 2 in the UK

If availability is anything like last year, it's going to be tough to get one in the US. With the updated engine, good luck prying them out of the hands of anyone who gets one.
